Welcome to

MK Food Bank

MK Food Bank is here to provide short term crisis support and care for families and individuals in Milton Keynes.

What we do..

2023 Stats

  • In 2023 we distributed 35,382 food parcels and equivalents, which equates to 707,640 food items out in Milton Keynes and surrounding area.
  • 44% increase in food bank service usage compared to 2023.
  • 4,841 households supported in 2023 alone.

Emergency food parcels.

These are bags of long-life food that are designed to create meals for three days. Anyone can access these if they find themselves without enough money to buy food for whatever reason.

We have 13 serving centres located across Milton Keynes.

Top-up Shops.

These are for people in financial hardship who need longer term support. Families can buy up to 20 items for £4 and access other types of support and advice as well.

We’ve now rolled out 7 Top-up shops altogether – 5 off our mobile van which travels around the areas in the most need.

This year the shop has been visited over 7,000 times – that’s almost a 200% increase since last year.

In 2024 we will roll out three more mobile stops – more info here!

We have helped thousands of families and individuals in crisis. These include, to name just a few:

  • Bereaved families who have lost the main breadwinner and don’t know where to turn.
  • Working people on low incomes struggling suddenly with very high mortgages, rent increases and bills.
  • Parents and children fleeing domestic violence, who are often displaced miles away from home.
  • Families with disabled children or sick relatives who have to have the heating on round the clock, taking up all their money.

On World Food Day, Monday 16th October 2023, Milton Keynes witnessed a very special event, MK Can was born!

MK Food Bank, along with over 300 businesses, community organisations, churches and faith groups, charities schools, came together on a cold October day in Campbell Park and showed the power of community, creating the Longest Line of Food Cans ever, and earning themselves an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS TM title to prove it!

The continuous line started at the World Food Day pillar in the MK Rose, the city’s open-air commemorative circle, and meandered through Campbell Park in the centre of the city, culminating in a giant ‘MK’ spelt out in cans. The final count totalled 102,447 cans, smashing the previous record by well over double, and measuring an impressive 7.64km.
